Mr & Mrs Smith is a boutique hotel “marketing brand” that allows hotels to remain independent, yet benefit from being a part of a wider group. In recent years, these “marketing brands” have been linking up with major hotel chains. For example, many Small Luxury Hotels are now aligned with World of Hyatt and Design Hotels are a part of Marriott Bonvoy. Mr & Mrs Smith has been aligned with IHG One Rewards for a couple of years.
This offers great benefits for IHG One Rewards members – who can now:
- Redeem points for luxury, boutique accommodation
- Earn points and elite night credits from paid stays
- Receive select benefits (the same as the BlackSmith level in the Mr & Mrs Smith program)
Great… So Where Can I Spend my IHG Points?
As with World of Hyatt / Small Luxury Hotels, not all Mr & Mrs Smith properties participate in IHG One Rewards.
Moreover, IHG’s booking engine is unreliable.
For example, if you search for “Argentina”, you should see a list of 10 hotels – from Buenos Aires to Salta – and including hotels in neighboring Paraguay. But if you search for “Germany”, you will only see the 14 hotels within a 100 kilometer (62.5 mile) radius of Berlin. And when you search for “United Kingdom”, Manchester appears to be the center point of the search.
This is not conducive to exploring. After all, the benefit of the IHG / Mr & Mrs Smith partnership is to allow you to redeem your points at out-of-the-way places you might never had thought of.
