Air Canada’s Aeroplan has launched an impressive promotion that will run until April 2nd, 2021. You will be able to buy Aeroplan points with a bonus of up to 100%.
The amount of bonus that you can achieve is tiered:
- Buy 3,000 – 19,000 points, get a 60% bonus
- Buy 20,000 – 55,000 points, get a 80% bonus
- Buy 60,000 – 350,000 points, get a 100% bonus
In order to get the best price, therefore, you should buy at least 60,000 points (and receive 120,000). This will cost you CAD1,800.
When converted into US dollars and cents per point, you would be paying 1.2 US cents each.
Aeroplan doesn’t change their pricing based on the number you buy, so if you need a relatively small top up to an existing balance, a 60 or 80% bonus is still good value.
Does it Make Sense?
A “best ever” bonus is certainly a good place to start whenever you are thinking of buying some miles (most likely to use immediately for an international award booking in Business or First Class). Air Canada is a member of Star Alliance, meaning that you can access award space on a large number of partner airlines, as well as Air Canada itself.
Aeroplan has gotten rid of fuel surcharges, which means that you will only need to pay the actual taxes due, rather than some made-up scam fee.
Aeroplan also offers very generous stopover rules. So if you like to go on multiple-destination vacations, Aeroplan points are a great way to build your dream itinerary without paying for each flight separately.
But because Aeroplan offers a distance-based award chart (rather than a region-based chart), it’s hard to generalise about the best value reward options. You simply have to take your own desired itinerary and make your own calculations…
Don’t Forget Cashback
Because Aeroplan sells its points via Points.com, you should be able to get some cashback on top. Topcashback is our favorite – click here to sign up if you aren’t already a member.
