Review: Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View

Having recently transitioned from SPG to Marriott Rewards as my primary program, I was anxious to see how my decision would pan out. Fortunately, my recent stay at the Renaissance Hong Kong did not disappoint. I stayed there four nights for business.

Arrival/Check-In

A nice seating area to wait for my room

My “arrival” actually began a few days before the stay started, when I got a nice, and clearly personalized, email from the concierge. They told me how valuable elites are to them (I’m only Silver) and asked what they could do for me to prepare for my arrival. Nice touch.

I got to the hotel at 5:30 am, but the staff was as friendly as if it had been midday. The woman at the front desk apologized profusely that they did not have a room ready, but she happily stored my luggage. When I completed check-in later, I discovered that they had already sent my bags to my room. Another nice touch.

That evening, they dropped off a tray with a fruit basket, plate of cookies and box of chocolates, along with yet another note thanking me for being Silver. I can’t wait to go back when I’m Platinum!

Rooms

Small but comfortable. The room was laid out well, with space for a desk in the corner and a TV opposite the bed. There was also a small chair by the window. It was not huge, but it more than got the job done. They also left a couple of outlet converters in the room in case I had forgotten to bring them. Having outlets next to the bed and by the desk was more than sufficient. If you like it cold in your room, be aware that the HVAC setting only goes down to 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).

My view was of the Hyatt next door, but I hadn’t expected an upgrade, since the hotel was 100% occupied. View is not a big deal to me, but if it is to you, you can get a harbor view room for a bit more.

The bathroom was also small but functional. The shower was positioned oddly and it was difficult to use without flooding the bathroom. Also, the water in the sink never got above lukewarm.

Facilities And Service

The Renaissance Hong Kong certainly had everything a business traveler could use. There was plenty of conference and F&B space, as well as a gym and shared pool with the Hyatt next door. Your location is good and there are inexpensive cabs to take you everywhere.

The service was simply outstanding. Everybody at the property was friendly and helpful. I couldn’t believe what a big deal they made over my lousy Silver status and all requests were completed correctly the first time. I used the laundry service, which got my shirt back in 12 hours instead of the promised 24. Naturally, there was a discount because of my Silver status.

Value

I paid a conference rate of approximately $300, which appears to be a normal price for the property. Given how expensive Hong Kong real estate is, I’m happy with the value that I received.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the Renaissance Hong Kong. The service was excellent and the team went out of its way to please.
