“Refer up to five new Marriott Rewards members and earn up to 25,000 bonus points annually. You will earn 1,000 bonus points for each stay your referred new members make, beginning with their first paid stay, up to five stays per referral. Your referred friends will also earn 1,000 Marriott Rewards points beginning with their first stay for up to five stays within 365 days of enrollment.”

This short article — which was written by Randy Petersen on Friday, November 2, 2007 — discussed the details of the benefits of referring a friend to the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program for the year 2008…

Marriott Still Rewards Friends

…and while you can still refer up to five friends each calendar year to become new members of the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program in 2016, as that is an ongoing initiative, some of the details have changed since 2008 about which you should know.

First, you can now earn up to 50,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points each calendar year simply be referring friends and colleagues into what is known as the Refer A Friend program — and each time that new member books a reservation and completes a stay, you receive 2,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points per stay for up to a maximum of stays as the sponsoring member.

Your referrals will also earn 2,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points beginning with the completion of their first paid stay for up to a maximum of five stays — which totals up to 10,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points in addition to the base points which they will earn.

Stays which your referrals book, reserve and complete at any participating hotel or resort property qualify for the Refer A Friend program; and those stays must occur within 365 days of enrollment.

Select Terms and Conditions

New members of the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program:

  • Must sign up through the Refer A Friend channels and provide the names of their sponsors and their Marriott Rewards membership account number — including via this channel or by calling Customer Support at 800-450-4442 in the United States and Canada and referencing the Refer A Friend program
  • Who join through the Refer A Friend program must designate Marriott Rewards points as their earning preference, as the miles earning preference is not an option with the Refer A Friend program
  • Cannot retroactively designate a sponsor; as sponsorship must be determined at the time of enrollment of the new member

The sponsor must be a member in good standing with the Marriott Rewards frequent guest loyalty program.

Should any of the initial five stays be retroactively deducted from the account of the new member, the bonus Marriott Rewards points will also be deleted from the account of the sponsor.

A stay is defined as consecutive nights spent in the same hotel or resort property — regardless of the number of times of checking in or checking out.

Other terms and conditions apply.

Summary

Exactly when — or if — the brands of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide will be added to the list of brands which qualify for the Refer A Friend program is unknown at this time…

…but the Refer A Friend program is a good way to extend the expiration date of the Marriott Rewards points which are already in your account. Your friend earns bonus Marriott Rewards points simply by staying at a participating hotel or resort property. You earn bonus Marriott Rewards points in exchange for a little time and effort on your part at no cost to you. The Marriott Rewards program has a new member added to it.

Everybody potentially wins with the Refer A Friend program.
