Earn Up to 50,000 Bonus AAdvantage Miles to Australia or New Zealand

American Airlines airplanes in Las Vegas with old and new liveries

You can earn up to 50,000 bonus AAdvantage miles to Australia or New Zealand when you travel as a passenger nonstop to or from the United States between Wednesday, February 1, 2017 through Wednesday, May 31, 2017 aboard airplanes used for flights marketed and operated by American Airlines; or flights marketed by American Airlines but operated by Qantas Airways.

How to Earn Up to 50,000 Bonus AAdvantage Miles

Bonus AAdvantage miles will be calculated and awarded based on the booking class purchased and the number of trips taken as a passenger seated in a specific cabin aboard the airplane.

For each eligible trip you take during the offer period as a member of the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program, you will earn bonus AAdvantage miles based on your purchase of a qualifying fare ticket in the first class, business class or select economy class cabins as shown in the chart below:

One-Way Trips

First Class

Business Class

Select Economy

First 10,000 5,000 1,500
Second 15,000 7,500 2,500
Third 25,000 12,500 5,000
Total 50,000 25,000 9,000

All you need to do is register for this promotion — which is required prior to travel — and book your eligible tickets through Monday, December 31, 2016 using promotion code SPF16 for the following published fare classes for flights marketed by American Airlines:

  • First class: F, P, or A
  • Business class: J, R, D or I
  • Economy class: Y, H, K, M, L, W, V, G, Q, N, O or S

Tickets purchased prior to Friday, October 21, 2016 or after Monday, December 31, 2016 are not eligible to earn bonus AAdvantage miles for this promotion.

Select Terms and Conditions

Flights marketed and or operated by other codeshare partners are not eligible for this promotion.

Bonus AAdvantage miles:

  • Can only be earned for a maximum of three one-way segments
  • Will be posted after each eligible one-way segment.
  • Do not count toward elite level status qualification or AAdvantage Million Miler status

Other terms and conditions apply.

Summary

The odd part of this otherwise simple promotion is that you can earn up to 50,000 bonus AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program miles with a maximum of three one-way flight segments, which seems to mean two round-trip flights — unless you do not plan on returning to where you started.

Still, it is more rewarding than a similar promotion offered earlier this year in which you could have earned up to a maximum of 30,000 bonus AAdvantage miles for flying as a passenger of Boeing 787 “Dreamliner” aircraft operated by American Airlines between Los Angeles and Auckland

If you planned on traveling between the United States and Australia or New Zealand anyway as a passenger anyway via the qualifying fare classes, then by all means register for this promotion.
