How You Can Help Victims of Hurricane Matthew With Marriott

The announcement pertaining to Marriott International, Incorporated matching the contributions of frequent guest loyalty program points through Monday, October 31, 2016 for people adversely affected by Hurricane Matthew was released after the announcements of similar efforts by United Airlines and American Airlines; so it could not be included with those articles.

How You Can Help Victims of Hurricane Matthew With Marriott

“Our hearts go out to the people and communities that have been impacted by Hurricane Matthew. There were many Marriott properties in the path of storm. Thankfully, we have no reports of guest or associate injuries. While most of our hotels are open, we are assessing the extent of impact on each hotel and efforts are underway to fully restore operations in those properties more significantly affected by the storm. We express our appreciation to associates who have helped coworkers, guests, local authorities and members of their community to weather the storm.”

Cancellation fees are generally waived for guests holding confirmed reservations at the hotel and resort properties which have been affected by Hurricane Matthew; but hotel and resort properties reserve the right to decide on a case-by-case basis.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the American Red Cross are supported by Marriott International through annual contributions to support disaster relief. This year these annual grants are being directed to relief efforts pertaining to Hurricane Matthew.

…are tax-deductible in the United States. Check with a local tax advisor for applicable rules outside the United States and for other organizations listed.

Loyalty Donations Members of our Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards frequent guest loyalty programs have the option of donating points for contributions to the American Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; and those point contributions will be matched by Marriott International, Incorporated.

Unfortunately, no incentive is provided here for you to donate your points from the three frequent guest loyalty programs of Marriott International, Incorporated — except, of course, the altruism which you will feel, knowing that you are doing something good for those who really need it — so unlike the efforts from United Airlines and American Airlines, there are no bonus miles or points involved…

…but then, that is really not the…er…point of giving — right?
