One of my favorite short trips from the Boston area is Newport, Rhode Island. It is also a very easy and convenient from the New York area and numerous other east coast locations. I find Newport to be quite calm and enjoyable even when the weather has turned cold. Enjoy lunch at Benjamin’s or tour some of the Newport Mansions.

Since there are a number of dates available between now and the end of the year, this might be a decent opportunity for a “mattress run” for those that need the requisite stay credits and prefer a full service Hyatt Regency property that is an actual destination and not an airport or suburban hotel location.

Even with the resort fee, under $110 for a full service Hyatt property in a fun, albeit cold historic city makes for an inexpensive get-away. The hotel is on an island that is close to downtown Newport, but the property provides a free shuttle to downtown. When we last stayed, we found the service to be very convenient and accommodating. This is especially nice, since there are a number of great dining venues in Newport and this allows one to avoid taxis and designated drivers for an evening of wining and dining. In addition, these are refundable/changeable room rates within the regular terms of the property. Hopefully you will get a chance to enjoy Newport as much as I do, at a discounted rate.
