The Dutch hotel brand citizenM is expanding its presence in the United States and the country is now becoming key in its growth strategy. This year we can expect 3 more new citizenM hotels in the US. Both Miami and Boston will get another hotel in addition to existing locations. Austin, the third new hotel, is a new one for citizenM.
Boutique hotel citizenM
The first citizenM hotel opened in 2008 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Not longer after, Glasgow followed suit as the first citizenM hotel outside of The Netherlands. Fast forward to 2024, there are more than 30 citizenM locations across the globe. The boutique hotel formula seems to work for the Dutch brand. It’s targeting modern travelers that like a bit of luxury and design, but don’t want to spend too much. CitizenM hotels are often nicely decorated, offer free fast WiFi and a good breakfast. Rooms are small, but thoughtfully designed. And everything in the room, from the TV, lighting to the curtains, is controlled with an iPad.
You can check the list of current locations, nightly rates and promotions on the citizenM website.
New hotels in Boston, Miami and Austin
The hotel brand continues to open its doors in new locations. In Italy, the first hotel has already opened in Rome. Three hotels will be opened in the United States this year. CitizenM Austin Downtown launched just recently.
The company is not only opening its doors in southern Austin, new locations are also being added in Boston and Miami.
CitizenM actually already has locations in those cities, namely Miami Brickell, Miami Worldcenter and Boston North Station.
The location in Austin has 344 rooms spread over 17 floors. The hotel also has a rooftop bar and a swimming pool. Later this summer, citizenM Boston Back Bay will open as well. The hotel will have 399 rooms, so it’s a bit bigger than in Austin. The design of the hotel is inspired by the city of Boston and works by local artists. And on the rooftop you can find a bar that is also open during winter.
The third new US location is in Miami’s South Beach. The beach is just 7 minutes away by bike. This hotel is a lot smaller than the first two new locations as it only has 168 rooms. But the rooftop pool will be a big plus of course!
It seems that citizenM isn’t finished with opening new locations. Beyond the new hotels discussed in this article, we can also expect openings in Dublin, London and Washington. Opening dates have not been announced yet.
Our stay at citizenM Los Angeles Downtown
We have stayed at citizenM a couple of times before. Of course, is may not suit everyone, but we are certainly happy about our stay. The beds are big and very comfortable. Breakfast is not included as standard in the price, but it is definitely worth booking. The breakfast buffet is not as extensive as in some hotels, but the quality of the food is really good.
