Iberia Plus, AIRMILES and Avios

Iberia Plus, AIRMILES and Avios

British Airways Executive Club isn’t the only program to adopt the new Avios points. The new Avios also replaced Iberia Plus’ Puntos and AIRMILES last year. Puntos points were converted into the new Avios currency at the rate of 15 Avios points for every one Puntos. AIRMILES were multiplied by 10 when they were converted into Avios. Executive Club, Iberia Plus and AIRMILES continue to operate independently, but all three are using the Avios currency.

Elite-qualifying points for Iberia Plus previously called Basic Air Points now have a new name, Elite Points. Avios are earned according to the distance flown and class of service while Elite Points are earned according to the Elite Points table. One-way tickets used to require 75 percent of the price of a roundtrip but now require 50 percent. The award charts and expiration policy for all Avios points is the same and members need to complete activity once every 36 months to prevent their points from expiring. Award flights are determined by zones. A fuel surcharge will be introduced on Iberia flights, ranging from a minimum of 7.5 euros to a maximum of 30 euros per flight.
