Qantas Frequent Flyer is on the cutting edge in self check-in technology for Qantas flights with the newly introduced Next Generation check-in facilities. Qantas Frequent Flyer elite members (Silver, Gold and Platinum, not Bronze) are receiving Next Generation Check-in Kits through the mail that include a “Q Card”–a smart chipped card that is replacing their Frequent Flyer membership card along with electronic bag tags. The card can simply be touched against a card reader at the airport (if you haven’t already checked in online) and can be used as your boarding pass. The cards won’t work on international flights and along with this new technology comes stricter check-in baggage policies–if you are not a Frequent Flyer Silver, Gold or Platinum elite member, and are flying economy, only one bag of 23kg (50lb) or less is allowed.
