Aer Lingus is running a promotion this weekend that it is billing as “50% off Avios on all flights.”
However, this is NOT a promotion for reward flights. Instead, this promotion offers an excellent way to redeem your Avios for PAID flights, receiving a discount of ~1.7 US cents per Avios.
To participate, you simply book a revenue ticket as normal on aerlingus.com. Once you reach the payment page, you will be offered the chance to reduce your cost by partially paying with Avios.
When I attempted a dummy booking for a New York to Dublin flight, I was offered the chance to save ~1.7 cents per Avios. Your savings might be different if you attempt to book an itinerary departing from a different country…
Because this promotion is being offered by Aer Lingus ONLY, you need to move your Avios into an AerClub account. Luckily this is very easy to do – click here to read about Combining Your Avios.
What Else Should I Know?
- You must book your Aer Lingus flights between October 14-16, 2022.
- If you attempt to book a codeshare flight, you will NOT be able to use your Avios to reduce the cost.
- Because you are booking a REVENUE ticket, you can only cancel if your ticket rules allow
Will I Earn Miles?
Yes! That’s one of the factors that makes this promotion so appealing. You are not relying on award space but are instead booking a regular cash ticket.
As a result, you can credit your Aer Lingus flights to:
- Aer Lingus Aer Club
- Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
- British Airways Executive Club
- United Airlines Mileage Plus
One thing to note, however, is that you do NOT earn Tier Points when crediting Aer Lingus flights to British Airways Executive Club.
Bottom Line
Receiving 1.7 cents of value per Avios is EXCELLENT. But only if you are interested in flying on Aer Lingus and can book this weekend!
