Is Daily Getaways Worth a Look?

Daily Getaways has released details of the first packages to be available starting on Thursday, October 7th, 2021 at 1pm Eastern time.

Week 1

October 7 – Hilton Honors

  • 30,000 points for $150 (450 packages) – 0.5 cents per point
  • 100,000 points for $500 (225 packages) – 0.5 cents per point
  • 250,000 points for $1,250 (176 packages) – 0.5 cents per point

You can buy a maximum of 3 sets for each package and an overall maximum of 5 packages.

At 0.5 cents per point, this is the regular sale price when buying directly from Hilton Honors. So it’s only worth considering if you have reached the annual cap for buying directly from Hilton.  By grabbing 3 packages of 250k and 2 more of 100k, you could acquire 950,000 Hilton points if you really wanted to…

October 8 – World of Hyatt

  • 80,000 points for $960 (8 packages) – 1.2 cents per point
  • 50,000 points for $660 (6 packages) – 1.32 cents per point
  • 30,000 points for $396 (2 packages) – 1.32 cents per point

You can buy a maximum of one set each.

This is an excellent price. However, unless you have advanced script-writing skills, you won’t get one of the 16 packages. Don’t waste your time…

Week 2

October 11 – IHG Rewards Club

  • 25,000 points for $125 (601 packages) – 0.5 cents per point
  • 2,500 points for $12 (250 packages) – 0.48 cents per points
  • 5,000 points for $25 (700 packages) – 0.5 cents per point
  • 50,000 points for $250 (549 packages) – 0.5 cents per point
  • 100,000 points for $500 (534 packages) – 0.5 cents per point

You can buy 5 of each package and 16 overall.

Again, this is the standard sale price when buying points directly from IHG.

October 12 – Choice Privileges

  • 14,000 points for $84 (1,147 packages) – 0.6 cents per point
  • 28,000 points for $155 (1,561 packages) – 0.55 cents per point
  • 42,000 points for $220 (1,300 packages) – 0.52 cents per point
  • 55,000 points for $285 (1,590 packages) – 0.52 cents per point

You can buy 4 of each separate package. (16 in total)

This is an excellent price for Choice points. And there are far more packages available (than Hyatt) so you don’t need to be a robot to get one or more…  But these will still sell quickly.

October 13 – Wyndham Rewards

  • 15,000 points for $175 (766 packages) – 1.17 cents per point

You can buy 2 packages.

This is one to avoid. Wyndham’s regular promotions sell points for less than a cent per point

October 14 – Omni Hotels

  • 2 Night Weekend Getaway $175 (30 packages)
  • 2 Night Weekend Escape $245 (41 packages)
  • Stay 2 Nights at Omni Hotels $335 (38 packages)
  • Stay 1 Night at Omni Hotels $235 (15 packages)

Even though it might look like a bargain, these certificates have uncertain hotel eligibility and blackout dates / availability to worry about.  Avoid!

October 15 – Accor

  • Luxurious New York Getaway $1,000 (5 packages)
  • Luxurious Los Angeles Getaway $1,700 (3 packages)
  • Luxurious Washington DC Getaway $1,000 (5 packages)
  • Luxurious San Juan Getaway $1,400 (4 packages)

These are Ovation Rewards certificates that supposedly never expire and offer “last room in category” availability. But that doesn’t mean that you would be saving $1,000+ on your exact date…

The Bottom Line

I would love to get one of the Hyatt packages, but experience tells me I won’t…  The Choice deal might also be worth a look.

Otherwise, as usual, Daily Getaways is simply offering a way of circumventing any annual caps on buying points direct from the hotel chain…
