IHG Rewards has announced details of the promotion that will run from October 1st until December 31st, 2021. Members can earn:
- NO BONUS for their first stay (annoying as always)
- Double points for their second stay (i.e. an additional 10 points per $ spent)
- Triple points for every subsequent stay (i.e. an additional 20 points per $ spent)
Heavy spenders should be made aware of the fact that you can earn a maximum of 70,000 bonus points.

Because of the “no bonus for first stay” proviso, it is worth reminding readers that any consecutive nights at the same hotel are considered to be a single stay, no matter how many separate reservations you make or how many times you check out and check in again.
It is also worth noting that you must spend a minimum of $30 on your room rate for your stay to qualify. Reward stays, or less obviously Points + Cash stays do NOT qualify either.
The Bottom Line
It is very member-unfriendly to offer no bonus for the first stay. I tend to avoid such promotions. But if you have an expensive IHG stay planned for this fall, you may want to squeeze in a couple of cheap stays in order to ensure that you receive triple points on the expensive stay
