You will earn a bonus of 20 percent on each conversion of your Starwood Preferred Guest Starpoints to American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program miles through Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 11:59 in the evening Central Daylight Time; and if you convert a minimum of 20,000 Starpoints in one transaction, Starwood Preferred Guest automatically adds a bonus of 5,000 Starpoints to your total.

Earn a Bonus of 20 Percent When Converting Starpoints to AAdvantage Miles

To qualify for this offer, you must initiate the AAdvantage mileage conversions with the Starwood Preferred Guest frequent guest loyalty program and be in good standing in the American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flier loyalty program. You may convert your Starpoints into AAdvantage miles multiple times during the promotion period.

To earn the conversion bonus 20 percent, you must convert Starpoints into AAdvantage miles — and…

This offer is not transferable and cannot be reversed, as airline transfers are one-way and cannot be refunded or reversed.

Terms and Conditions

Bonus miles will be posted by American Airlines to your qualifying AAdvantage account within seven business days after the initial conversion activity has been posted by Starwood Preferred Guest. Bonus miles earned in this promotion do not count toward elite status qualification.

Members of Starwood Preferred Guest may transfer up to 79,999 Starpoints per transaction per program within a 24-hour period to the American Airlines AAdvantage program — which means that up to a maximum of 94,999 Starpoints can be transferred into your AAdvantage account. Please keep in mind that only one airline transfer transaction per member, per airline frequent flier loyalty program, is permitted within a 24-hour period. Additionally, your name must be identical on both accounts in order to complete the transfer request, as different names will cause the transfer to be rejected.

There is no minimum Starpoint transfer requirement for Platinum elite status level members. Gold elite status level members have a minimum transfer requirement of 1,500 Starpoints; and Preferred level members have a minimum transfer requirement of 2,500 Starpoints.

Transfer maximums are based on a combination of your Starpoints and the Starwood Preferred Guest airline transfer transaction bonus. Only one airline transfer transaction per member per program per 24 hour period is allowed; multiple transfer transactions within the same 24 hour period will be rejected.

Other terms and conditions apply.

Summary

If you are looking for a quick way to build up AAdvantage miles in your account and you value them more than Starpoints, then this promotion could be a good deal for you…

…but not everyone would agree with that statement: “This seems like a really bad deal to me. SPG still has great redemption value. AAdvantage? Wow! Not often”, opined InsideFlyer member KenInEscazu. “If only the service would match the price in miles or dollars. Don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve had major issues on almost every trip to or within the US this year on AA. I thought I would be flying free for the rest of the year, and I now just hope I can plan the remainder of my travel far enough in advance to avoid their redemption shenanigans. Otherwise, I’m going to be looking for price on the carrier who in balance serves me best.”

You can join in on the discussion if you have any thoughts which you would like to add — and as many frequent fliers like to say, your mileage may vary.
