SPG is offering 2,500 bonus Starpoints when you try out SPG keyless between now and February 29, 2016 and use your American Express card to pay.

Here’s how to earn the points –

First go here to register. It just asks your SPG account number and email address, and then takes you a page confirming that you are enrolled.

After that, download one of the SPG apps if you haven’t already. Here’s a link to the Apple SPG app and the Android app.

Go into the app to register (a one-time thing) and set up your device to opt-in. This means you’ll need Bluetooth on and push notifications allowed.

Book a hotel stay at a participating W, Element hotels or an Aloft property using the SPG app, and pay for your stay using your American Express Card.

Once you’re at the hotel you’ll receive another notification with your room number, and a signal will be sent to your phone that will allow you to use SPG Keyless to unlock your door. After you unlock your door (and pay for the stay with your Amex), your 2,500 bonus will have been earned.

The 2,500 point bonus can only be earned one time during the promotion.

I think this is an easy way to earn 2,500 bonus Starpoints with little effort. When staying at Starwood properties I typically use my SPG Amex card anyhow, and though I’m not really a fan of allowing push notifications, you can always opt-in and then turn off that feature after the stay.

The only big drawback is that the promotion isn’t available at all Starwood properties, just the W, Aloft and Element properties where the new keyless functionality is available. I didn’t find a list of participating properties but figure if it doesn’t show up on the app then it isn’t available.

Terms & Conditions state that if you booked a stay before the promotion period opened on November 20, 2015 you can still earn the bonus, but the stay must fall within the period of November 20, 2015 and February 29, 2016.
