As of Oct. 1, 2014, Qantas will non longer partner with South African Airways. The partnership included earning Frequent Flyer points when traveling on SAA domestic flights and members could also redeem points for SAA flights.

Bottom line: SAA has shown favor to Virgin Australia over Qantas so we won’t be surprised if a stronger partnership with Virgin Australia is announced soon. SAA belongs to the Star Alliance but has partnerships with several airlines outside that alliance, including Emirates, EL AL, Etihad and Virgin Atlantic.
