Starwood Hotels is the brand to remember for triple points if your stay by July 31, 2014 includes Sunday night. Stays without Sunday night earn double points. Check hotels to see properties opting out of this offer. One of the real deals with Starwood Hotels is the birth year rate. This offer is limited to select hotels. Some hotels offer big savings with a real bargain on second and third nights. In my rate check for a three-night stay at U.S. Grant San Diego, a Luxury Collection Hotel, the birth year rate for me showed $289 + $60 + $60 for three nights at $409. The next lowest rate I found was AAA at $780 for the same room and dates. Link: http://insideflyerus.wpengine.com/link/?11508

There are 19 Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites on the U.S. hotels list. These hotel brands offer kitchen units in most rooms. Choice Privileges is offering 8,000 points after two stays by Aug. 22, 2014. In the western U.S., there are many rural places where the only chain hotels are Choice and Wyndham. Wyndham Hotels has not yet announced a promotion for July.
The opportunities are there for hotel savings with major hotel brands during summer 2014 travel. The rise of flash sale online travel agencies like TravelPony or sharing economy rental sites like Airbnb offer more lodging alternatives for upfront savings. But they offer no loyalty points, hotel stay benefits or rebates when choosing these types of rooms for your travel. Hotel loyalty has its rewards.
