JAL Mileage Bank has changed some of its policies on earning and redeeming miles with airline partner American Airlines. As of April 1, 2011, Mileage Bank members will be able to earn elite-qualifying Mile-Up Bonus miles when flying on eligible American Airlines flights. Special economy class fares V and S will now earn 70 percent of miles flown (from 50 percent). And effective July 1, 2011, the awards for American Airlines tickets will change from a zone to a distance-based award chart and the miles required for an award will be based on the total distance in miles. For example, a roundtrip award ticket up to 4,000 miles in distance will be 23,000 miles in coach, 38,000 miles in business and 58,000 miles in first class. Oneworld awards will also be changing on July 1 and itineraries that include JAL and one or more partner airline will be integrated into oneworld award tickets–JAL+Partner Joint Award tickets will be discontinued.
