SAS EuroBonus has revised the number of points required for hotel stays and announced on its Web site that, “We are happy to announce that the price will be the same on weekdays and weekends, it will no longer be more expensive to stay on weekdays.” Sounds like good news, right? Sort of. All hotel stays used to be 10,000 points on weekends and 20,000 points on weekdays. After April 1, award stays at Best Western are 15,000 points, which means weekends are now more expensive and weekdays are less expensive.
However, all stays at Scandic Hotels and Rica Hotels are now 10,000 points per night, which is beneficial for weekenders who will now save 50 percent off the 20,000 points previously required. Stays at Regent Hotels & Resorts are increasing to 20,000 points per night on April 1 and to 26,000 points per night on June 1, which is more than double the 10,000 points previously required for weekend nights. Also changing is the type of points awarded for paid hotels stays. Members could earn Basic points (which count toward elite status qualification) at some hotel partners but after April 1, all hotels give Extra points (non-elite qualifying). Basic points can now be earned by flying SAS, Blue, Wideroe and Star Alliance carriers only.
