Effective Jan. 27, 2010, Qantas will be moving some British Airways award flights from the Qantas Classic Award table to the Partner Classic Award table, which means that Frequent Flyer members will have to pay more points to redeem for some British Airways flights. The most popular routes on British Airways will not be changing, such as Sydney to London on British Airways and Sydney to Bangkok on Qantas, Bangkok to London on British Airways. Flights such as London to Paris on British Airways will now be found on the Partner Award Table.
The mileage difference between the two charts is slight. For flights less than 600 miles one way (such as Paris to London), Qantas Classic Awards start at 8,000 miles in coach. The same flight as a Partner Classic Award would require 10,000 miles in coach. Many Partner Classic Awards require about 2,000 or 3,000 additional miles but on longer flights in premium cabins, the difference jumps to 10,000 miles or more.
