Geoff Dixon, Chief Executive of Qantas Airways, announced that the company would give individual financial results for both its freight and frequent flyer program at the company’s half-year results in February, moving to individual reporting for all its associated businesses by the end of 2008. Qantas is betting that their “non-flying businesses” will create additional shareholder value.
Also of note, Qantas now owns 18 percent of Vietnam’s low-cost Pacific Airlines and plans include to own 30 percent. Qantas Airways is also the biggest single shareholder in Singapore-based Jetstar Asia. Qantas Frequent Flyer members can earn miles when flying Jetstar Asia, but not when flying Pacific Airlines.
