Qantas Airways is facing new competition. Qatar Airways has been awarded rights to operate a daily flight to Melbourne and will also have the right to operate a second daily flight to another Australian city from 2008. Emirates is adding new routes to Australia and Etihad Airways has launched service to Australia. Singapore’s Tiger Airways has been given the green light to proceed with the creation of Tiger Airways Australia. Furthermore, Australia’s Virgin Blue is looking to launch long-haul flights to the U.S. in 2008.
