As of April 1, Miles & More will become the new frequent flyer program of SWISS International Airlines. Customers of SWISS will then be able to collect and redeem their miles with Miles & More. Within the context of the integration, several changes will be made to the Miles & More program.
“With the further, market-overlapping adjustment of the program conditions, the position of Miles & More as the leading frequent flyer program in Europe will be taken into account,” said Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice President Marketing & Sales at Lufthansa German Airlines.
Elite status thresholds in Germany will be lowered. Miles & More members who reside in Germany will be given Frequent Traveller status with 35,000 status miles and will qualify for Senator status with 130,000 status miles. Internationally, members need 35,000 status miles to attain Frequent Traveller status and 100,000 status miles for Senator status. Members will no longer be able to qualify through flights or segments. Miles will be the sole determining factor.
Miles & More will also be introducing flight bonuses for children. Kids between two and 11 years old will need just 75 percent of the usual number of miles required for award travel.
Also beginning in April, miles will be able to be redeemed for one-way flight awards, for 75 percent of the usual number required for a roundtrip.
In addition, HON Circle miles will be earned on flights operated by Lufthansa, LOT, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Adria Airways, Croatia Airlines, Air One and Lufthansa Regional. Until March 31, miles flown with United will still be credited to the member’s account as HON Circle miles.
Finally (here’s the bad news), Frequent Travellers will no longer be able to take any accompanying persons into the lounge.
