Delta Air Lines is set to expand its European network with the introduction of a new nonstop service from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to Copenhagen (CPH), beginning in May 2025. This route will operate three times a week, providing more connectivity between the Upper Midwest and Scandinavia. It will offer travelers a direct gateway to one of Europe’s most culturally rich cities.

Strengthening Delta’s European network

This new route strengthens Delta’s presence in Europe. It’s the first time the airline is offering a nonstop flight from MSP to Copenhagen. The danish capital is known as one of the most livable cities in the world, with a mix of historic charm and modern design. This move is part of Delta’s strategy to offer more direct flights to Europe, and it’s supported by a new partnership with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), which recently joined the SkyTeam alliance.

SAS and Delta partnership

Copenhagen is one of Europe’s most vibrant and culturally rich cities. This route will create a valuable connection between two major SkyTeam hubs, offering travelers seamless connectivity between Scandinavia and North America,

Connecting the Midwest to Scandinavia

For Minnesotans, the new flight to Copenhagen is particularly significant, since many have Scandinavian roots. This direct flight will make it easier to visit family or explore their heritage. Brian Ryks, CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, shared his excitement: “This route will strengthen ties between our regions, both culturally and for business.”

With this new flight, Delta now offers nonstop service to seven European cities from MSP, including Paris and Amsterdam. For passengers flying from Copenhagen, this route opens up Delta’s network to more than 110 cities across North America.

More destinations through Delta’s partnership with SAS

Delta’s new codeshare agreement with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) enhances connectivity for travelers flying between Minneapolis to Copenhagen. SAS, the national airline of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, offers access to over 80 destinations from the Danish capital. This means that travelers flying from the U.S. can easily connect to other European cities, while those flying from Copenhagen will have access to a wide range of destinations across the U.S. and Canada.

Rick King, Chair of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, sees the partnership as a big win: “This new service will open up great opportunities for both business and leisure travelers”.

Comfort on the flight: Delta’s premium experience

Delta will operate the MSP-CPH route using its A330-300 aircraft. Passengers will have several cabin options: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin.

  • Delta One, Delta’s business class, offers a premium experience. Passengers can enjoy lie-flat seats, luxury bedding, and a chef-curated four-course meal. They also receive amenity kits designed by Italian fashion brand Missoni, known for its colorful zigzag patterns.
  • Delta Premium Select gives passengers wider seats and deeper recline, making long flights more comfortable. Across all cabins, travelers will enjoy a curated food and drink selection and over 1,000 hours of inflight entertainment via Delta Studio.
