With the introduction of fast, free Wi-Fi provided by T-Mobile, Delta Air Lines has reached a significant milestone in offering reliable, streaming-capable connectivity across its entire global fleet.

Most transatlantic flights are expected to offer free Wi-Fi by the end of the summer. On Viasat-equipped routes to and from Germany, the rollout begins in August, while Switzerland will follow in September.

As of now, free, streaming-capable connectivity is already available on nearly 700 aircrafts, covering more than 90% of Delta’s core U.S. fleet. The airline expects the majority of its customers will have access to this service by the end of the year.

To ensure Delta delivers the premium service passengers expect, the airline is gradually rolling out this offering on Viasat-equipped wide-body aircraft on select routes. Additional routes will be added as soon as a high-quality and reliable service is available. This phased approach is similar to the strategy used in 2022 during the domestic installations.

As we continue to roll out fast, free Wi-Fi and the in-flight experiences it powers, we’re able to serve customers traveling both domestically and internationally in new, in-the-moment ways. The scale at which we are offering free Wi-Fi to our customers is unprecedented in the airline industry and is a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the company, who have successfully managed this highly complex rollout.

At first, when free Wi-Fi is introduced on international flights, no SkyMiles login will be required for the international Wi-Fi portal. Later this year, all Viasat Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft will officially switch to the personalised Delta Sync Wi-Fi experience. This will be unlocked through customers’ SkyMiles membership, offering exclusive onboard experiences and perks.

Last month, fast, free Wi-Fi was introduced on most flights between France and all U.S. airports. The service will soon be available on flights from Germany, with Switzerland following in September 2024.
