Do You Agree With Skytrax That These Are The Best Airlines In The World?

Skytrax, the airline ranking site, held its annual awards ceremony at the Langham Hotel in London on 23rd September, attended by airlines from all over the world.

After conducting more than 14 million customer surveys over the past year, the award for Best Airline went to Qatar Airways – its 7th such “gong” since the Skytrax awards began in 1999. The airline also received 8 other awards, including best business class, best business seat and best business lounge.

Edward Plaisted, Skytrax CEO, said:

To receive the 2022 World’s Best Airline award is a great recognition of Qatar Airways high standards, and recognises the hard work and dedication from every member of the airline’s staff to satisfy customers. Qatar Airways was the largest airline to have flown consistently throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with their network never falling below 30 destinations, and that determination has clearly been well recognised by customers with this award as Airline of the Year 2022. For Qatar Airways to achieve this top accolade for a seventh time is both a unique and remarkable achievement, and we congratulate them for this success.”

Of the 350 Airlines surveyed, Singapore Airlines was named second in the world, followed by Emirates, ANA All Nippon Airways and Qantas.

Delta Air Lines led the way for the US with 6 region specific awards, and Turkish Airlines was the European top dog with 4 awards including the Best Airline in Europe title.

The world’s top 10 airlines in 2022, according to Skytrax:

  1. Qatar Airways
  2. Singapore Airlines
  3. Emirates
  4. ANA (All Nippon Airways)
  5. Qantas
  6. Japan Airlines
  7. Turkish Airlines
  8. Air France
  9. Korean Air
  10. Swiss

British Airways just failed to make the Top Ten by coming eleventh.

Bottom Line

This is the first “live” awards ceremony that Skytrax has managed to have since the pandemic. Despite the turbulence of recent times, it’s reassuring to see so many airlines still offering excellent standards.

That said, the big question is what do InsideFlyer readers think of Skytrax’s ratings? Did your favourite airline miss out, or would you broadly agree with the Top Ten?

There is a fair amount of “pay to play” with Skytrax. But I don’t think too many people would complain about Qatar and Singapore being highly ranked.
