The first voice-activated hotel rooms have arrived, at Aloft Hotels.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced today that their latest foray into futuristic technology gives guests at some Aloft properties the chance to customize their environment by using simply a voice.
Each of the voice-activated hotel rooms at the Aloft Boston Seaport and Aloft Santa Clara has an iPad with a specially created app installed that works in conjunction with Apple’s Siri. There’s reportedly an easy tutorial to use once in the room, and the HomeKit-enabled controls offer personalized setup and sign-in to your own account as well.
If you return to your room after a hot day in the city, you can simply say, “Hey Siri” and then ask her to lower the room temperature. Want to rock out to tunes in your morning shower to get you motivated? She can do that too.
Feeling lazy in bed? It lets you turn on the TV, and you can adjust lighting.
Here are some of the commands from the press release –
Upon check-out, the iPad is reset and your personal settings are removed.
If you want to try out the cool new features, the Aloft Boston Seaport is excited to welcome curious guests and has an entire floor offering the technology. If booking online, under special requests simply indicate that you want a voice-activated room since their website doesn’t have a separate room category.
When the Aloft Santa Clara was contacted for further details they were a bit surprised, said they hadn’t rolled out the new rooms yet and in fact didn’t think they were finished. The manager was not immediately available for comment, though it is probable that there is at least one room ready today.
