They say everything is bigger in Texas. And when it comes to the Port of Galveston, they might be correct.
The Port of Galveston welcomed Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas. The Liberty of the Seas is the world’s 7th largest cruise ship, sharing that honor with two other cruise ships, Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas and Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. And will now have the honor of being the largest cruise ship to sail from Galveston.
The 160,000 ton Liberty of the Seas can carry 3,634 passengers and 1,360 crew members. The ship was recently renovated earlier this year, with Royal Caribbean adding features such as Tidal Wave waterslide, Splashaway Bay kid’s water park, speciality dining restaurants, and panoramic Ocean View cabins with floor to ceiling windows.
The Liberty of the Seas replaces the Navigator of the Seas which is being sent to Fort Lauderdale to sail alternating six-night Western and eight-night Eastern Caribbean cruises. The Liberty of the Seas will sail seven-night Western Caribbean cruises out of Galveston. Ports of call include Roatan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; Cozumel, Mexico; Falmouth, Jamaica; and George Town, Grand Cayman.
Other cruise ships sailing from the Port of Galveston include the Disney Wonder and the Carnival Freedom. Guests can choose from four or seven-night Western Caribbean cruises or six or seven-night Bahamas cruises on the Disney Wonder
The Carnival Freedom offers four-and five-day cruises with stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Progreso, Mexico, and two different seven-night Western Caribbean cruises, and a seven-night Bahamas cruise. The Bahamas cruise stops in Key West, Florida; Freeport, Bahamas, and Nassau, Bahamas.
Ports of call for one of the Western Caribbean itineraries include Cozumel, Mexico; Belize City, Belize, and Roatan, Honduras. The second Western Caribbean cruise itinerary stops in Montego Bay, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel, Mexico.
