Please get your mind out of the gutter. No, Tinder and Delta haven’t partnered (not that I’m aware of, anyway). But you can now earn Delta SkyMiles by staying with Airbnb. Coincidentally, this offer comes just as the conflict between the hosting service and New York City, one of Delta’s focus cities, heats up.
Airbnb And Delta
Here’s the deal (It’s easy.): Book your stay at Delta’s partnership site and you will earn a mile per dollar spent. Only the room rate counts, of course. Taxes and fees won’t accumulate your 1%. Terms and conditions are few and far between, but you do have to book through the proprietary site. A booking through Airbnb itself won’t get you your miles.
First-Timer Bonus
Many first-timers are nervous, but don’t be. To ease the transition, Delta is offering you a $25 credit, which is good toward your first stay. You will also pick up 1,000 bonus miles if your first stay totals at least $150 (Again, taxes and fees are excluded.), or 500 miles if the cost is at least $75. The only stipulation is that you have to make that first booking within 60 days of signing up for Airbnb. The stay itself can take place any time, though.
Your Place, Not Theirs
Want to rent your place out with Airbnb? They’ve got a deal for that, also. You can earn up to 25,000 SkyMiles by being an Airbnb host and doing the following before October 31, 2017:
- You earn 2,500 bonus miles when you earn your first $250 as a host.
- If you reach $1,000 in earnings (cumulative, not additional), Delta will kick in 7,500 miles.
- When your total earnings hits $2,500 (again, cumulative), Delta will give you an additional 15,000 miles.
The Bottom Line
The sharing economy is becoming part of the mileage economy. Airbnb has joined such companies as Uber in linking with travel partners to provide an extra incentive to use them. Most people are used to getting hotel points, so it seems natural to have a rewards system with Airbnb, even if the points are issued by someone else.
I wonder how Starwood feels about Delta cheating on them.
