The highly-rated Le Meridien Budapest left Starwood in September of 2015 which was a disappointing departure, as Starwood no longer has any hotels in Budapest and only a lone single Four Points by Sheraton Starwood property in all of Hungary remains.
The hotel underwent renovations though, and re-opened as the Ritz-Carlton Budapest earlier this month. The property is the first Ritz-Carlton in Hungary.
The building maintains much of the architecturally historical charm from when it was first opened as an Italian insurance company in 1914, but the interior has been modernized to give guests plush comforts.
The Ritz-Carlton, Budapest is situated in a great location, about 30 minutes from Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport, within walking distance to the Hungarian Opera House, and is close to the Danube River. The property also boasts views overlooking St Stephens Basilica.

As a Ritz-Carlton, there are 170 guest rooms and 30 suites, and the Club Level is located on both the 8th and 9th floors of the hotel. The basic Deluxe Room at 390 square feet occupies up to 4 adults and has heated floors in the marble bathroom.

Rates start at 225 EUR, or about 252 USD.
Deak Street Kitchen is the hotel’s Hungarian restaurant that uses local seasonal ingredients and offers indigenous Hungarian wines and beers. There’s also the Kupola Lounge, which offers breakfast and lunch under the hotel’s grand crystal chandelier.
The top floor houses the Spa, which has an indoor pool, and lots of natural light. Also on the top floor is the fitness center, which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As Budapest is such a vibrant city and has lots of solid hotel options, the Ritz-Carlton Budapest has some strong competition. There’s the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace, an InterContinental, Hilton, an Autograph Collection Marriott, Kempinski, Sofitel.
