Guests at the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers can pedal their way to a free meal. The eco-friendly hotel has installed electricity producing bicycles in the hotel gym and any guest who produces 10 watt hours of electricity, typically produced after pedaling for around 15 minutes, after riding one of the stationary bikes will receive a complimentary locally produced meal, worth approximately 200 Danish Kroner. Exercise enthusiasts can also race against the hotel’s solar panel system and try to produce more electricity, perhaps easier to accomplish on a cloudy day. The electricity generated by bike riders is stored in a battery and used to power the hotel.
If the electric bicycle initiative is successful, the program will be expanded and offered at all Crowne Plaza hotels in the U.K.
