A J.W. Marriott hotel is set to open in September in Grand Rapids, Mich. that will feature the entire 19th floor as a women-only floor. Reports of this news recently flooded the media, but this isn’t anything particularly new because hotels have offered women-only floors for several years now. The Marriott in Grand Rapids will also feature a lounge for women only and the rooms will have amenities such as ionic hair dryers, special bath products, jewelry holders and chenille throws — and come at a higher cost, about $30 more than the usual rate. A survey by a TV Web site in Orlando asked visitors if they liked the idea of a women’s-only hotel floor: 31 percent said yes, it’s a great idea; 44 percent said, no, it’s sexist; two percent couldn’t decide and 23 percent said they didn’t care.
