Elite members of both the Delta SkyMiles and US Airways/America West Dividend Miles/FlightFund programs are enjoying upgrade generosity like never before.

Medallion SkyMiles members are enjoying complimentary first class upgrades from the United States to most of their Central and South American cities. While space-available rules apply, Jeff Robertson, managing director of the SkyMiles program, notes that the airline has added 30 percent more seats during the past year, making it the fastest-growing airline to Latin America and the Caribbean. We can’t think of any better way than to use this extra capacity than in this manner.

Next stop is an upgrade to Hawaii. US Airways has been offering an introductory elite special to Hawaii. Scheduled to end Feb. 1, we’ve discovered that this is likely to be extended until March 1. Dividend Miles Preferred and FlightFund Elite members are eligible to receive complimentary day-of-departure upgrades to Hawaii. Some carriers charge $250 for these upgrades.
