We mentioned in last month’s issue that GlobalPass was working on a form of global mileage currency, and as soon as we heard more we would pass it along. Well, we’ve heard more.
Customers of Miami-based GlobalPass can now take advantage of a new booking system that earns four miles per dollar spent, and can be used to book award travel on almost every airline in the world.
“GlobalPass customers may earn miles three different ways for any given transaction,” said Guy Booth, president and CEO of GlobalPass. “You will earn on the purchase when purchasing through the GlobalPass Web site; you will earn miles if you use a mileage-earning credit card; and you will earn miles at check-in for your flight by presenting the frequent flyer card for the airline program you are flying.”
GlobalMiles can be used to redeem award flights on over 500 airlines throughout the “SuperAwards” program. For example, a $295 ticket on any carrier can be booked with 40,000 GlobalMiles — roughly 135 miles per dollar, or 1.35 cents per mile.
Booth said that tickets booked through the SuperAwards program are free of restrictions and blackout dates. “These are regular tickets,” he said.
In addition to earning miles when purchasing airline tickets through the GlobalPass site, customers can earn miles when they fly on KLM, Aeropostal, Alianza Summa, Southern Winds or Grupo TACA; rent a vehicle from Avis Rent a Car or Thrifty Car Rental; stay at Hilton, Embassy Suites or InterContinental hotels; and shop at more than 300 online merchants.
