Kiva, the global micro-lending organization popular with frequent travelers (see InsideFlyer’s August 2012 cover story) has added India to the country list where you can lend a helping hand through a microloan to a person or group. With 68 percent of India’s population living below the international poverty line, the need is great and Kiva is committed to serving marginalized communities, including the very poor, widows and the disabled, who have little or no access to credit. Visit http://www.kiva.org/india to see a list of those currently looking for funding from that part of the world.
