Delta American Express Platinum and Reserve cardholders can save up to $175 with a new cardmember benefit. Delta will waive the fees associated with award redemptions on Delta and Northwest flights. Cardmembers will no longer be required to pay the close-in ticketing fees that range from $75 to $150 or the $25 partner airline handling charge. This benefit is only offered to cardholders of the Platinum and Reserve American Express SkyMiles cards–all other cardmembers will still be required to pay the award fees.

Delta no longer participates in the OPEN Savings program from American Express as of May 15, 2009. Cardholders will no longer be eligible for the three to five percent OPEN Savings discount.

In an email sent to a Delta Medallion member and posted on FlyerTalk, the following was mentioned, “Delta has decided to leave the program in order to shift focus on other opportunities. This decision does not impact the SkyMiles program or any other benefit to your American Express Delta Card.”
