You are probably well aware of our opinion on the credit card companies that have added a surcharge on overseas transactions. We’re still not happy with the issue and are pleased to see that something may be done. A lawsuit was recently filed in the U.S. District Court in New York which accuses banks of imposing these surcharges as “hidden fees.” As usual, the lawsuit includes the kitchen sink of antitrust and other charges and in a bold move, seeks to have the case qualified for class-action status. We’ll monitor this case because of the impact it has had on the credit cards we use to earn so many miles with.
