Shopping online can be a great way to add to your mileage balance – it’s all a matter of remembering to click through your merchant via the online shopping portal offered by your favorite frequent flyer program. The rebates aren’t always competitive with cashback websites such as Topcashback. But this can change when a bonus offer is available, such as this one from Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.
Between now and November 19th, 2021, you can earn:
- 300 bonus miles for spending $150
- 750 bonus miles for spending $350
- 1,500 bonus miles for spending $550
How to Easily Meet the Spend Targets
I often find that the easiest way to meet these spending targets is to book one or more Marriott hotel stays via the shopping portal. When you are spending $100+ per night, it doesn’t take a long stay to accumulate some serious $$$ in spending.
The question comes up occasionally, so I’ll be as clear as possible. When you use a cashback website or airline shopping portal to click through to a hotel chain website, you are definitely booking DIRECT and qualifying to earn points, elite status credit, etc.
And, naturally, you don’t have to actually stay at the hotel during the period of the bonus mile promotion. What matters is the date of making the reservation…
Bottom Line
The headline bonuses aren’t nearly as attractive as the ones on offer from United Airlines. But if you’ve got lots of holiday shopping to do (or travel plans to make), then you might be able to accumulate all of the bonuses…
