Starting Jan. 30, 2015, American Express Business Gold Rewards Cardmembers can choose which category between airline, select media, shipping, gas stations, computer hardware and software and cloud computing providers, you would like to earn triple points with. Currently, cardmembers earn triple points on airfare and double points on the other categories. You can choose your category within two months of opening your account but once chosen, you will need to stick with it until the following year because you must choose one category each year.

Bottom line: This gives members the option to maximize points for their most common spending. Along with this change, a couple of other options are being taken away, like double dipping in two different bonus categories for the same purchase, and additional cardholders will now earn points in their own Membership Rewards account rather than into the primary cardholder’s account.
