Hilton HHonors members are losing the option to earn Points and Fixed Miles for hotel stays. Members who choose to earn points and miles as their earning preference can currently choose between Points and Fixed Miles, which offers 10 base points per $1 spent plus 500 miles per stay, or Points and Variable Miles, which offers 10 base points and one mile per $1 spent. The fixed mile variation is being discontinued on Jan. 6, 2014 and Hilton HHonors members who have signed up to earn Points and Fixed miles will automatically begin earning Points and Variable miles for all stays after that date.
Bottom line: Hilton HHonors members who choose to earn points and miles and regularly spend $500 or less per stay will be earning fewer miles when this change goes into effect. The fixed miles option was a guaranteed way to earn 500 points per stay regardless of how much you spent on your stay. Now, the number of miles earned will be dependent on the amount of money you spend.
