Aloft introduced expedited check-in when it launched the Smart Check-In Program at the Aloft Lexington in 2010. Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) members who choose to use the invitation-only check-in program can skip the front desk entirely upon arrival at the hotel. Members who opt in will receive a SPG/Aloft-branded keycard that has radio frequency identification (RFID) technology before their stay.

On their arrival day, they will receive a text with their room number and their RFID-enabled keycard will unlock the door. Since 2010, over 10,000 guests have used the new technology and the program has expanded to additional properties and will be introduced at properties worldwide in 2013. Smart check-in is currently available at Aloft Harlem, Aloft Lexington, Aloft Dallas Downtown, Aloft New York Brooklyn, Aloft Cupertino, Aloft Miami Doral and Aloft Tucson University with additional properties coming soon. The program is only offered to SPG members who receive an email invitation to use Smart Check-In.
