Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer has revised its award chart and added the ability for members to redeem miles for more flights, including first and business class saver awards on B777-300ER flights and business class on A380 and A340-500 flights. Previously, members were not allowed to redeem miles for first and business class saver awards on the newer planes and only standard and full awards were available. These awards can be booked starting March 8 for flights departing April 1, 2012 or later. Singapore Airlines Suites, however, still cannot be booked as saver awards.
While members now have more options for saver first and business class awards, the cost of those awards are going up on some routes. For example, a one-way flight from the U.S. West Coast to Singapore is increasing from 60,000 miles in business saver to 80,000 miles and from 90,000 to 107,500 miles in first class saver. Upgrade awards are also increasing on many routes with some routes going up only 10 percent while others are increasing 44 percent. Also, members of Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer can spend their miles for a Star Alliance upgrade on EgyptAir-operated flights. Eligible booking classes for upgrade award redemption on EgyptAir include C and D for a business class to first class upgrade and Y and B for an economy class to business class upgrade. A one-way upgrade from Singapore to Egypt is 35,000 miles to upgrade from economy to business and 40,000 miles to upgrade from business to first class.
