Pet Airways Pet Points

Pet Airways Pet Points

The newest carrier in the U.S. to take to the skies has a strict “no humans allowed” policy. Pet Airways transports only domesticated household pets and has recently begun service between New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles. The airline expects to add Miami, Dallas, San Francisco, Montreal, Toronto, Atlanta and Boston to its list of destinations. Fares are determined based on the size of the pet carrier and length of the flight. The average one-way fare is $250.

The airline is offering a frequent flyer program, called Pet Points, for its furry travelers where pets receive 100 points for each one-way flight. Points can be redeemed for flights and other Pet Airways services. Points do not expire and can be redeemed for any of your pets. A roundtrip award flight will require 1,000 points and you will need to email your redemption request to [email protected] to use your points.

In general, Pet Airways fares are more expensive than the fees airlines charge to bring a pet onboard or as checked baggage, but not in every situation. Delta Air Lines charges $150 one way to bring a pet onboard and $275 one way for a pet to travel as checked baggage. American Airlines charges $100 one way for a pet to travel in the cabin and $150 in the cargo hold. Southwest now allows small pets to travel in the cabin for $75 one way. If you are traveling with a small pet, it might be easier and cheaper to bring your pet onboard with you.

Travelers with larger pets have the option to transport their pet in the main cabin of a Pet Airways plane with a trained Pet Attendant to keep an eye on your pet during the flight. Pet Airways also offers a MyPaws Club membership for $29.99 per year. MyPaws members receive discounts at pet-friendly hotels, prescription discounts at 1-800-PetMeds, pet health insurance and other offers from Pet Airways partners.

Information about Pet Points can be found under the PetAirways.com FAQ and the site features a blog with helpful information for your traveling pet.
