For the past two years, United Airlines has teamed up with the American Cancer Society to raise money, miles and provide some comfort to children undergoing cancer treatment. When customers donated a minimum of $50 or 7,500 Mileage Plus miles to the American Cancer Society this past winter, United Airlines employees delivered a limited-edition Gund teddy bear named Maye I. Hugyou to a child with cancer at Children’s Memorial Hospital or University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Through the initiative, United Airlines customers donated over 55 million Mileage Plus miles and $160,000 for the American Cancer Society. The donated miles will provide around 2,200 roundtrip saver awards for cancer patients and their caregivers to receive treatment.
