Recently, the Aeroplan Web site was down from a Friday to Sunday night after routine maintenance caused a crash. Members of the program were not able to access their mileage accounts or redeem miles online, although they were able to access their accounts via the phone. The outage had members worried that the back-end systems used by Aeroplan are not sufficient enough to guard the stored information but Aeroplan officials say that the systems are secure. Aeroplan claims that more than 80 percent of its members earn in excess of $100,000 per year and the program stores a significant amount of data about members’ shopping habits and more.
