Virgin Blue recently added a second tier, Gold, to its Velocity loyalty program. The previously single-tiered program rewarded Red frequent flyers with elite benefits when they achieved Silver status. Status levels will be determined as if the new program requirements were there since the beginning and members who qualify for higher status will automatically be upgraded to Silver or Gold. Under the new program, members will earn status credits in addition to Velocity points for each dollar spent on fares with Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue. Members need 20,000 status credits to gain Silver and 50,000 for Gold.
Gold and Silver members will receive priority check-in and an exclusive phone line. Gold members will be given complimentary membership to The Lounge, an increased baggage allowance and the ability to earn seven points and status credits per dollar spent. Silver members will receive one complimentary visit to The Lounge, a discount on annual Lounge membership and six points and status credits per dollar spent. Red members earn five points and credits per dollar spent.
