Marriott International and boutique hotel innovator Ian Schrager announced they are partnering to create a new brand — boutique, one of a kind hotels that reflect the cultural and social milieu of the hotel’s location. Plans for the yet to be named brand include opening 100 hotels within the decade through new construction, conversions and renovations. The hotels will have an average size of 150 to 200 rooms and will be located in gateway cities throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. New York has been identified as an obvious first choice, along with such cities as Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston, Las Vegas, Chicago, London, Madrid, Berlin, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing. The partners expect to have at least five firm development deals for the new brand by the end of this year.
