Alaska Awards

If you live on the West Coast and your summer travel plans include a hike through Denali National Park or visiting the museums in San Diego’s Balboa Park, check out Alaska Airlines award sale. The airline has discounted its award inventory on select routes and for travel between routes such as Seattle and Calgary; Los Angeles and Santa Rosa; San Diego and San Francisco, Mileage Plan members can book roundtrip coach award travel for 15,000 miles instead of the usual 20,000 miles (7,500 miles one way).

For travel within Alaska, flights between Anchorage and nine Alaskan cities including Fairbanks, Glacier Bay and Juneau have been discounted 33 percent. Select intra-Alaskan flights are available for 10,000 miles roundtrip (normally 15,000 miles) and 5,000 miles one way. Both discounted award travel offers are only valid for travel on Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air when making reservations online. Stopovers are not allowed and the discount is available at alaskaair.com through Aug. 28, 2007. Visit http://insideflyerus.wpengine.com/link/?428 for a full list of award city pairs.

Members of Alaska Mileage Plan now have more award options to Hawaii. The airline will begin service to Hawaii from Seattle starting Oct. 12, 2007, and between Anchorage and Hawaii from Dec. 9, 2007. A roundtrip coach Saver award is 35,000 miles compared to 40,000 miles for American, Continental or Northwest partner award flights. The Alaska Airlines coach award flights match the redemption for Delta partner flights at 35,000 miles. Roundtrip first class Saver awards on Alaska Airlines flights are 75,000 miles; peak coach award tickets are 70,000 miles and peak first class award tickets are 150,000 miles. As always, one-way awards are available for half the miles of a roundtrip award. Of note is that a partner first class award on Continental is 65,000 miles — 10,000 less than flying Alaska on a Saver award.
