America West Airlines has received Department of Transportation authorization to launch a codeshare partnership with Royal Jordanian Airlines.
Royal Jordanian can now place its two-letter code on America West flights from New York/JFK, Chicago/O’Hare and Detroit to America West’s hubs in Phoenix and Las Vegas, as well as on America West transcontinental flights from New York JFK to San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Customers of both airlines will be able to take advantage of additional frequent flyer and lounge access opportunities. Members of America West’s FlightFund program and Royal Jordanian’s Royal Plus program will be able to accrue and redeem miles on all scheduled flights operated by either airline. Additionally, America West Club members and Royal Jordanian elite members will be able to enjoy access to both airlines’ lounges.
Approval for America West to place its code on flights operated by Royal Jordanian between the U.S. and Jordan is still pending.
The United States and Jordan signed an “open skies” treaty in 1996, the first such treaty for the U.S. with an aviation partner outside of Europe. Under terms of the treaty, airlines from either country are provided open access and unrestricted capacity and frequency rights to points in both countries.
