Anyone at all familiar with FlyerTalk.com knows the online frequent flyer forum gets its fair share of press. In fact, many long-standing members have more than likely been quoted in one or more of the world’s leading newspapers.
On June 21, however, a new precedent was set when the forum received special mention in Slate.com.
The article, which was written by new FlyerTalker Marisa Rowe, was a trip report of sorts, journaling her experience as she took advantage of an unusually generous Icelandair fare she learned of in the Mileage Run forum.
As a result of that article, which received prominent placement on MSN.com (Slate is a part of the MSN Network), over 3,000 new members registered on one day alone — a new single-day record, by a long shot.
Due is some part to that influx of new members, FlyerTalk was able to hit another milestone on July 13 — its 3 millionth post.
That achievement places FlyerTalk as the No. 2 travel bulletin board on the Internet, and No. 1 in terms of posts per member.
Every day, nearly 40,000 visitors come to the site to read and benefit from the information posted about frequent flyer miles and points.
